Former Kenyan president Kenyathati Kenyattu was sworn in as president of Kenya at the nation’s presidential palace on Thursday.
The 57-year-old was elected in 2014 with 54.3% of the vote.
Kenyatta will become the country’s longest-serving president, the longest-ruling leader of a country with a strong tradition of democracy and the first African to serve in office since independence from Britain in 1960.
In his first speech since he was elected, Kenyatas first official remarks came at a news conference after his swearing-in.
